Destination Swan Island, Thursday, May 30th “Completion Celebration!”

Please join us for a full day of events to mark the completion of $5M plus in bike, pedestrian and transit access projects on Swan Island! 
Thursday, May 30th Events:
  • Bikers’ Breakfast: 6:30am-8:30am at the Cummins Triangle (N. Going, Basin and Port Center Way) to mark the completion of a huge improvement to the Going to the River Trail; Coffee and pastries for attendees.
  • Portland Parks & Recreation’s Grand Opening of the Waud Bluff Trail: 11am at the foot of the Trail off north end of N. Basin Avenue.
  • Dedication of the plaque in honor of the late Captain Head: 4pm on N. Channel Avenue; Tea and pastries to follow at MacCarthy Park parking lot.
  • Drawing for a bike from Revolver Bikes ($450 value): 5pm at Daimler Trucks NA, Bike Station, 4747 N. Channel, E Wing.
 

A Destination Swan Island Celebration!

 

Join us for a day of events to celebrate bike/pedestrian improvements on Swan Island!

Bikers Breakfast at TILT: Bike in and enjoy complementary coffee and breakfast at SwanIsland’s newest eatery; 7-9am, 3449 N. Anchor Street.

Dedication of “The Captain’s Walk”: Join us to dedicate the new Channel Avenue sidewalk to the Shipyards in honor of Captain R. Head, Master of the Olendorff, who was killed while walking along N. Channel Avenue; 11am-1pm, McCarthy Park parking lot between N Ballast & Commerce. *Look for tent and banners. Light snacks and refreshments. Followed by…

Celebration and Grand Opening of “River to Lagoon Trail” (Led bike/walk tours): Take an easy stroll or bike ride to the Lagoon, once the main channel of the Willamette River; 11am-1pm.

Industry & Art: Celebrating the worker: Just down “The Captain’s Walk” at Vigor Industrial Shipyard; Noon to 6pm, 5555 N. Channel Avenue. Free with $5 suggested donation.

“Destination Swan Island”: You’re Invited!

The Swan Island TMA invites you to the “Destination Swan Island”  launch party, this coming Wednesday, May 9, 10 am to 2 pm. Help us celebrate the $5 million in bike/pedestrian/transit access improvements coming to Swan Island this year!

Learn about the Waud Bluff Trail and the Going to the River sidewalk/trail improvements. Guided rides and walks at noon.

Bring your bike for complementary bike tune-ups (courtesy of the Green Garage), bike seat covers (courtesy of the TMA) and more!

Get the latest on Active Transportation options for employees from city bureaus, regional agencies and non-profits, hear prominent speakers from Cycle Oregon, Alta Planning and the BTA and check out your carshare options: car2go, Zipcar and GetAround.

Walk, bike, grab an 85 Swan Island bus or drive on over to N. Anchor & Channel (easy parking across the street at the former Office Max location) to Daimler Trucks North America, Corp 1, 4747 N. Channel next Wednesday, May 9th…You can’t miss the tents! *Directions attached.

“Going to the River” no longer just a dream (and Going Street no longer a nightmare!)
